The two common methods for designing websites that work well both on Desktop and mobiles are "responsive" and "adaptive" design. The concept of both terms refer to the change in appearance but this is subject to width of the browser environment the website is viewed on. Responsive websites respond to the size of the browser at any given point but Adaptive website, as it implies, adapts to the width of the browser at a specific point. It is well said that, it is important for a Web Designer to have an all-round knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript as well as UX design, Visual Design and Search Engine Optimization (S.E.O).
